- Version 1.0 — Initial release (community deal map).
- Version 2.0 — Free Stuff marketplace, curated deal discovery, expanded user-to-user data disclosures, and updated contact details.
1. Who We Are
SnagMate is operated by Rohan Basukala, trading under ABN 99 173 145 600, based in Cranbourne, Victoria, Australia. References to we, us and our in this policy refer to the operator of SnagMate.
SnagMate is an intermediary platform and community notice board. We provide technology that allows users to post and discover local deals and Free Stuff listings. We are not a party to any exchange, sale, gift, or in-person meeting between users.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
When you sign in to SnagMate we collect:
- Your display name from your Google or Apple account.
- Your email address from your Google or Apple account.
- Your profile photo from your Google or Apple account.
When you post a community deal we collect:
- The photo you take.
- Your current GPS location at the time of posting.
- The deal category, price and description you enter.
- The time and date of your post.
When you use the Free Stuff marketplace we collect:
- Listing photos, title, description, category tag, and suburb.
- Optional listing availability window.
- Exact pickup GPS coordinates stored separately from the public listing (see Section 4.3).
- Request notes you send to a poster (optional, up to 150 characters).
- Legend boost points applied to your request (virtual points, not money).
- Pickup coordination data when a request is accepted: proposed pickup windows, confirmation timestamps, optional arrival timestamps, and optional mobile phone numbers you choose to share.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App we automatically collect:
- Your device type and operating system version.
- Your approximate location when you open the App to show nearby deals.
- App usage data including screens viewed and features used.
- Crash reports and error logs via Firebase Crashlytics (including your user ID when you are signed in).
- Your Firebase Cloud Messaging token for push notifications.
- Consent and compliance metadata such as terms/privacy acceptance timestamps, version acceptance, platform, sign-in method, app version, and age-gate status.
2.3 Curated Deals (Operator-Generated Content)
SnagMate may automatically discover and publish curated deal information. This process uses Google Places to find venues, fetches publicly available text from business websites (respecting robots.txt where applicable), and sends that text to OpenAI to produce standardized summaries. This process does not collect your personal information. Curated deals use generated card images — we do not scrape or republish venue photographs.
2.4 Information We Do Not Collect
SnagMate does not collect:
- Your precise location outside of active app use.
- Background location tracking.
- Financial or payment information.
- Government identification.
- Sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act.
- Payment for Free Stuff — all Free Stuff exchanges are arranged directly between users without payment processing by SnagMate.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Display your name and photo on deals and Free Stuff listings you post.
- Show deals and Free Stuff listings near your current location.
- Calculate your home suburb for the leaderboard.
- Send you push notifications about nearby deals, Free Stuff activity, and pickup coordination with your consent.
- Award and track Legend Points for your activity.
- Facilitate Free Stuff request and pickup coordination between users.
- Publish curated deal summaries discovered from public business sources.
- Moderate content and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Improve the App through analytics and crash reporting.
- Respond to your support, safety, and content complaints.
4. Location Data
4.1 Showing Nearby Deals and Free Stuff
The App requests your location while you are actively using it to show deals and Free Stuff listings within your local area. We do not track your location in the background.
4.2 Tagging Your Community Deal Posts
When you post a community deal, your GPS location is recorded and attached to that deal so other users can see where it is. Your precise location coordinates are stored in our database linked to each deal you post.
Location data associated with deals may be visible to other users in an approximate form to enable discovery of nearby deals. While we store precise coordinates internally for technical accuracy, the App displays deal locations on a map in a way that indicates general proximity rather than pinpointing an exact private address.
4.3 Free Stuff Pickup Location
Free Stuff listings show suburb-level location publicly (for example, "Near Cranbourne"). Exact pickup GPS coordinates are stored in a separate, access-controlled record and are not visible to the general public.
Exact pickup coordinates are disclosed only to:
- The user who posted the listing (always).
- The single user whose request has been accepted by the poster (after acceptance only).
By posting a Free Stuff listing or accepting a request, you understand that exact pickup location may be shared with the other party for the purpose of completing pickup. SnagMate is not responsible for how users use location information once disclosed.
You may deny location permission, but the App will have limited functionality without it. You can manage location permissions through your device settings at any time.
5. Photos
Photos you take when posting a community deal or Free Stuff listing are uploaded to Firebase Storage and displayed to other users within the App. Community deal photos are automatically deleted when the deal expires. Free Stuff listing photos remain visible while the listing is active.
Do not include personal identifying information, faces of people without consent, home addresses visible in photos, or sensitive content in photos you upload.
6. User-to-User Sharing (Free Stuff)
When you use Free Stuff pickup coordination, information you voluntarily provide may be shared with one other user involved in that pickup:
- Optional mobile phone numbers (only if you choose to share them; visible to the poster and accepted requester only).
- Exact pickup location (after a request is accepted).
- Pickup window proposals and confirmations.
- Optional request notes visible to the poster.
- Arrival timestamps when you tap "I'm Here".
SnagMate does not verify user identities, phone numbers, or the accuracy of information shared between users. Any in-person meeting, phone call, or text message arranged through the App is solely between the users involved. SnagMate is not responsible for misuse of contact details or location information shared between users.
If you experience harassment, fraud, or unsafe behaviour from another user, contact us immediately at snagmate-legal@proton.me (or by phone if published below). You should also report serious matters to police where appropriate.
7. Push Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications about:
- Community deals posted near your location.
- Deals that are expiring soon.
- Verification activity on your posts.
- Leaderboard updates.
- Free Stuff requests, acceptances, pickup reminders, and coordination updates.
Curated deals (marked "Found online") do not trigger proximity push notifications.
You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your device notification settings. Opting out does not affect your ability to use the App.
8. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely on Google Firebase servers. Firebase is compliant with SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC 3, ISO 27001, and other major security standards.
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm to any individual, we will comply with our obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This includes notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by law.
Your data may be stored on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States where Google Firebase and OpenAI operate. By using the App you consent to this international transfer of data where applicable.
9. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. Specifically:
- Community deal posts and photos are automatically deleted when the deal expires.
- Free Stuff listings, requests, and coordination records are retained while the listing is active and for a reasonable period thereafter for moderation and dispute resolution.
- Your account information is retained until you delete your account.
- Legend Points and leaderboard history are retained while your account exists.
- Usage analytics are retained for up to 14 months.
- Firebase Crashlytics logs are retained for up to 90 days.
- Legal consent records (terms and privacy acceptance) are retained for up to 7 years for compliance and audit purposes and are not deleted when you delete your account.
10. Sharing Your Information
SnagMate does not sell your personal information to third parties.
We share limited information with the following service providers solely to operate the App:
- Google Firebase for database, storage, authentication, and notifications.
- Google Maps and Google Places for map display, location, and venue discovery.
- Google Analytics for Firebase for app usage analytics.
- Firebase Crashlytics for crash and error reporting.
- OpenAI for automated summarization of publicly available business website text when generating curated deals (business source text only — not your personal account data).
As described in Section 6, certain Free Stuff information is shared directly between users involved in a pickup. This is user-initiated sharing facilitated by the platform, not a sale of data to third parties.
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
11. Curated Deals and Third-Party Business Information
Curated deals displayed in the App are generated through automated discovery of publicly available information on business websites and Google Places. Summaries are produced using AI and are not independently verified by SnagMate.
Curated deal card images are generated by SnagMate — we do not scrape or republish copyrighted photographs from venue websites.
If you are a business owner and believe curated information about your venue is inaccurate, outdated, or should be removed, contact us at snagmate-legal@proton.me or snagmate@proton.me. We will review and respond as soon as practicable.
12. Children's Privacy
SnagMate is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the App. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.
13. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Complain about how we handle your information.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at snagmate-legal@proton.me. We will respond within 30 days.
13.1 Deleting Your Account
You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time through the Profile screen in the App or by emailing snagmate-legal@proton.me. We will process deletion requests within 30 days. Note that some anonymised analytics data and legal consent records may be retained as described in Section 9.
14. Cookies and Tracking
The SnagMate mobile app does not use cookies. We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymised usage data to help us improve the App. You can opt out of analytics through your device settings.
15. Third Party Links and Businesses
The App may display information about third party businesses and allow you to open external maps or websites. SnagMate is not responsible for the privacy practices of any third party businesses or services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any businesses you interact with outside the App.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or via push notification. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. Material updates may require you to re-accept the policy in the App.
17. Complaints and Disputes
If you have any concern about content on SnagMate, another user's behaviour, a curated deal, a Free Stuff listing, or how we handle your personal information, please contact us first. We welcome reports by email, and by phone or text if a phone number is published below. We aim to address safety and content issues promptly.
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles, you may lodge a complaint with us at snagmate-legal@proton.me. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.
